Zachar Shapiro is an internationaly recognized artist who
lives and works in Israel. His art works are in private
collections in Israel, Europe and USA and featured in Israeli
and American Galleries.
Zachar was born in Moscow, Russia. He pursued intensive formal arts education from the early age through high school and college. The period of Russian Avant-garde and the works of Kandinsky, Falk, Lentulov, and Filonov strongly influenced the formation of his artistic character. By graduation in 1971, Zachar was already an accomplished artist and was admitted to the prestigious Moscow Artistic Guild.
Over the next 20 years, Zachar has completed numerous installations for the Department of Monumental Art of the Russian Artistic Fund and participated in the making of massive diagrams for the city of Sochi and Norylsk. He designed theatrical decorations, tapestries, and metal relief, and worked on architectural decors for the prominent buildings in Moscow.
In 1988, at the age of 42, Zachar suffered a stroke, became partially paralyzed and could not work for 2 years.
In 1990 Zachar moved to Israel where he returned to art being more productive than ever. Originally left-handed, he trained himself to paint with the right hand. Since then, he has created over 500 works in various genres.
